POKEMON Go news this week includes a big update on Gen 4, and the release of a new Pokemon that’s going to be tricky to catch.
Trainers were expecting the next Pokemon to be released into Pokemon Go to be from Gen 4.
Sinnoh region was recently announced as the place where the latest Pocket Monsters would be hailing from.
However, as ever with Niantic, there’s got to be a few surprises along the way.
Gen 4 Pokemon still look set to be the newest addition to the game; however, there’s also going to be another bonus Pocket Monster to catch very soon.
The development team are also bringing back Meltan, the gloopy Hex-Nut type that started popping up last month following the busy community day celebrations.
No one was able to catch it but it looks like that’s about the change.
This winter will see the official launch of Meltan in Pokemon Go, via a new research task and a special item.
Today saw Niantic and the Pokemon Company post two new videos on the mythical Pokemon, which looks set to become a new reward for those players who own Let’s Go Pikachu on Nintendo Switch.
The new research task hasn’t gone live yet and it appears it will be something to do in the final months of the year.
“Since the existence of the Mythical Pokémon Meltan has been discovered, further research has brought new information about its biology!
“Meltan appears to be cute and innocent, and we are excited to learn more as research continues. Professor Willow and the Kanto region’s Professor Oak have apparently made some progress in their investigation, so be sure to check out their latest video!
“What’s more, Professor Willow needs you to do some Special Research to seek out the Mythical Pokémon Meltan!
“Look for this Special Research to begin later this year. You’ll also learn more about the details of the investigation Professor Willow and Professor Oak carried out to unlock the mysteries of Meltan. Conduct research alongside the Professor and catch Meltan.”
While it sounds like players will be able to catch Meltan by completing the new research, the Pokemon Company website says something different.
It looks like a new Mystery Box will be required to catch Meltan, which will only be available to those players who switch players from Go, to Let’s Go Pikachu.
Here’s more from the site, which explains: The Mystery Box Holds the Key to Catching Meltan.
“We now know that Meltan appears in Pokémon GO. In order to catch Meltan, it is essential to have a Mystery Box, which can be received by sending Pokémon from Pokémon GO to Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!”
“The Mystery Box closes itself after it’s used once. The only way to open it again is to wait a set amount of time, and then send another Pokémon to Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
